Borouge Marketing - Product Development Manager

Borouge Pte Ltd is now seeking an outstanding individual for the post of Product Development Manager. The role is based in Abu Dhabi and reporting to Innovation Centre Manager.
Role Purpose:
Responsible for managing an Innovation Project Portfolio meeting BU needs for new value creating products to the market, including adapting to the BU and R&D innovation strategy and the Borouge ADP operational strategy. Accountable for timely execution of identified innovation projects or application projects / tasks and supporting up-scaling of products into commercial operation for customer launch. Responsible for ensuring IPR protection for all product development activities.
Contribution:
C1. Area or Responsibility:
• Managing an Innovation Project Portfolio meeting different BU needs and overall Innovation needs for Borouge
• The team executes agreed Innovation Projects and Application Projects / tasks according to milestone plans and targets
• Develops strategies for own area and sets KPI’s to achieve agreed targets
• Introduction of new grades in Borouge expansion projects by product evaluations, optimisations, and quality / performance approvals.
• Structured management of all customer related specifications and master files like Internal Product Specifications, Technical Delivery Specifications and technical part of Technical Data Sheets during the development phase
• Responsible for ensuring products meet applicable IPR and liability requirements by initiating, finalising and patenting innovation projects and initiation of liability and FTO studies when needed
• Overall responsible for technical investigations, reporting and conclusions on customer complaints
• Responsible for the achievement of HSE&Q performance targets and the implementation of the right mindset focusing on continuous improvements in this area.
• Overall responsible for external technical projects and studies supporting Innovation, R&D and Application research
• Establish, submit for approval and manage the yearly operating fixed cost budget
• Provide input on prioritisation of laboratory work
• Regular Reports on progress on Innovation projects, application projects / tasks, and quality / claim status
• Support customer and other laboratory quality system audits
KPIs
• Achievement of defined targets set by Innovation Centre Manager
• Meet HSE&Q performance targets within own area
• Timely delivery of Innovation Project targets on new products and other projects / tasks
• Number of Innovations Projects and total NPV
• Timely evaluation, optimisation and approvals of new up-scaled products in Borouge 1 and 2 start-up product mix
• Achievement of agreed IC budget targets within own area
• IPR & patenting targets
C2. People:
• Leads, develops, and motivates a specialist team
• Ensures that the team is efficiently organised, staffed and skilled to meet current and future business needs
• Participate actively to the recruitment process of Product Development Engineers.
• Builds a team containing the required skills and behaviours and initiates plans for succession.
• Coach his people so that results are achieved and motivation is increased

• Timely recruitment and training of IC Product Development Engineers
• Ensures relevant scientific and technical skills in team
• People motivation and drive
C3. Customer:
• Be an active member of the IC management team in guiding and inspiring the organization.
• Strong co-operation with Business Units, R&D (B&B), IC specialists to generate creative solutions to develop capabilities meeting innovation targets and market needs
• Exploring customer and value chain needs by meeting stakeholders, co-operation (customers, machine manufacturers…) and visits
• Gives relevant papers/lectures inside and outside the company to promote Borouge products and image

• No. of customer and value chain member visits / meetings
C4. Interfaces:
• IC, R&D and BU management teams for the needed and agreed Innovation Project Portfolio & other projects
• Strong co-operation with Borouge / Borealis R&D networks and business units
• Support Borouge ADP operations in relevant teams like QC and Plant / Product Customer Support Teams
• Continuously finding new technical solutions or unmet business needs by co-operating with value chain partners, like customers, machine manufacturers, end users etc.
• Focal point for contacts with third parties within own area
KPIs
• Smooth working relationships across all interfaces
• Close co-operation with Borouge ADP QC and operations by meetings and fulfilling action plans
Skills:
S1. Education
• Graduate (MS or PhD) in Chemistry, Polymer Science or a related discipline
S2. Experience
• > 5 years experience in managing a team of researchers/ development engineers/ technicians
• Good knowledge of plastic markets and applications
• Excellent knowledge of plastics processing, testing and analytical techniques.
• Project management capability and knowledge
• Excellent knowledge of scientific methods and tools
• Proven experience in relationship / scientific network building
• Good knowledge of IPR patenting process and patent writing
• Planning, prioritization ,communication (oral & written), presentation, accuracy, coaching, and feedback
• Good communication in English (reading, writing, speaking)
• Good IT skills (Microsoft…)
• Good commercial understanding and interest in business value
